The grit stitch is crocheted in single crochet and gives our projects a very delicate touch. It is ideal to vary the traditional single crochet a little and to have a richer pattern in the final piece.

Grit Stitch

In order to crochet this stitch the only thing you need to know is how to do single crochet, the rest is very, very easy:

The number of stitches is a multiple of 2 +1 stitch.

Row 1: skip the first 2 chains (they count as one single crochet), make a single crochet in the next chain, *skip the next chain, make 2 single crochets into the following chain*. Repeat from * to * until you get to the last 2 chains, skip the next chain, make a single crochet in the last chain and turn the project around.

Row 2: make a chain (it counts like a single crochet), make a single crochet in the next stitch, *skip the following stitch and make 2 single crochets in the next stitch*. Repeat from * to * until you get to the last 2 stitches, (ATTENTION, the last stitch is actually a chain from the anterior row), skip the next stitch and make a single crochet in the last stitch. Turn the project around.

After finishing the 2 rows, repeat only the second one until you have reached the desired length.

Would you like to crochet a little something for the summer in grit stitch? It would certainly look very nice 😀

In our example we have used cotton in salmon pink, but you can of course use any color you like and a 5MM crochet hook.

No matter whether you are already an expert in this technique or whether you have just started to use it, we are always interested in seeing your own creations. You can share them with us on Instagram with the hashtag #weareknitters.
