Crocheting in the round has many applications. You can use it to make blankets, rugs, bags, purses … they give a very original touch and are very easy to make.

Today we’re going to show how to make a V closure on a basket, but the technique can be used in any project of this type. It’s a way of closing off the rows so that the beginning of the new round is less noticeable, and the seamed appearance that happens when you use a slip stitch is avoided.

For this post, we’re using Petite Wool in Forest Green and a 7 mm crochet hook.

You’ll begin working in the round using a magic circle. You can find a video on how to make a magic circle on our website.

Step 1: Insert the hook from front to back through the front strand of the slip stitch.

Step 2: Insert the hook from front to back through the back strand of the chain stitch.

Step 3: Wrap the yarn around the hook and pull it through all the loops on the hook.

Step 4: Chain 1.

Now you’ve made the V-closure and you can go on to working the next row.

In this video, you can better see how it’s done:

We recommend that you use something to mark the turning chain, so you can see where the row begins and ends.

We’d love for you to use this technique in your crochet projects and share them with us on social media by using #WeAreKnitters.
